77. My parents immigrated to the United States in 1987. As a direct result, I sort of want to thwack people whenever they talk about immigration (illegal or otherwise). Frankly, there are very few people I consider qualified to talk about the subject in any in-depth way.
I’m doing it. I’m going to have a contest. Hey, I might as well, right? You guys are like, fans and stuff.
This particular contest begins as an offshoot of this contest. I’ve entered several identical contests since then, but haven’t received anything yet (despite winning one a few weeks back). So I’ve decided to hold my contest now rather than later because I’m impatient like that.
This contest is a Pay-It-Forward-style giveaway. I send a care package ((with notebooks, pens, stickers, maybe a plush bunny of some sort)) to three of the people that comment on this post. Each of those people then holds a similar contest online and sends a similar package to three other people.
In my particular version of this contest, ((It’s been well-documented (Here, here, here) that I’m really bad at following memes without introducing my own personal mutation.)) two names will be chosen at random from whomever comments and one will be chosen based on their ability to stump me. All you have to do is think of a general knowledge question that I cannot answer. (No Google.) You can ask as many questions as you want, but the winning question will be be something I should know but currently don’t.
Ask me anything you want, I’ll answer what I can and keep you updated on who is winning.

I’m a little confused by the 3-2-1 bits, but I’ll get over it. Quick-thought question: what’s the difference(s) between a hot dog and a bratwurst?
Hot dog is what you say when something novel occurs in the 1950s and bratwurst is what Germans eat.

I’d say I’m pretty smart. Heck, if I were just a bit stupider, I’d join MENSA. I am interested in biology, philosophy, psychology, physics, chemistry, engineering, history, mathematics, English, current events, geography, geology, and general trivia.
(What kind of a contest would this be if I didn’t have an even chance at answering your queries? 😆 )

It’s kind of hard to come up with a question since I am stumped by what is general knowledge. Like is Einstein’s birthday general knowledge? Is the amount of electrons in potassium general knowledge? Is my favourite colour general knowledge? Is the location of the g-spot general knowledge? What about who invented the screwdriver? Or George Washington’s middle name? Or the names of Jupiter’s four moons? Do people usually know where Wednesday came from? Or what made Tom Cruise jump on Oprah’s couch?

Einstein’s birthday would not be general knowledge as it does not have any impact on life and cannot be expected to be known by the average educated adult.
Potassium is an alkali metal, so it should have an extra electron in its outer shell. As I can’t imagine it being in the first three rows of the periodic table, I’m going to say Potassium has either 19 or 37 electrons, but I’m not too sure on the 37. That does count as general knowledge.
Your favourite colour does not count as general knowledge, but I’m going to go ahead and say it’s red.
The location of the Grafenberg Spot is general knowledge, and it’s about three inches inside the vaginal opening and up. (Interestingly, it’s supposed to be the remnants of the prostate gland. Or maybe that was vice versa.) I was going to say something obvious and sexual here, but I restrained myself. I hope you appreciate it.
Who invented the screwdriver is a good question, but as the screw is one of the six simple machines, I doubt there’s a tidy answer to that question.
George Washington’s middle name was Leslie. Actually, I don’t think he had one. In any case, I wouldn’t call that general knowledge.
Jupiter’s four largest moons are Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto.
Wednesday is descendant from Norse mythology (at least according to current estimates). Woden or Odin was the father of Thor and the Father of the Gods. Marvel is making a Thor movie soon. I am not interested in attending.
Tom Cruise is crazy and a Scientologist. Also, I guess he was in love. I wouldn’t call that general knowledge, but I know it anyway. General knowledge would be that Scientologist dogma insists that psychology is not a true science and that true Scientologists, if they believe hard enough, can make anything happen.
Meh, fair enough.
So general knowledge has both an impact on life and should be known by most educated adults. Gotcha.
Hm…I analyze too much because all of the questions I am coming up with I feel have no real impact on life. The only things that have impact on life really are instinctual…like how to swallow food. 🙂
