I didn’t realise I had an ilk

I’ll be the first to admit I have different beliefs from most people. Because of that, I tend to keep to my own in ideological battles. I don’t go around from message board to message board attacking creationists (though my roommate does it quite vociferously and it is enjoyable to watch) and I don’t attack other bloggers unprovoked.François Tremblay, however, does.

I don’t mind that. I can take on the average visitor and defend my positions from the fiercest of attacks. What I mind is when people ignore my responses and keep accusing me of being a ‘disgusting fuck.’

I hate one-way arguments because both sides remain frustrated and no one wins. I also cannot tolerate censorship.

I hate it. People should be shut up as punishment for SPAMming or other, equally annoying habits, but not because their views are different.

Tremblay has consistently deleted my responses to his post. He even brags about it:

“Any other comment from you will be deleted permanently. I do not respect you or your speech.”

The libertarian who doesn’t respect speech. Wow. Surely he realizes the contradiction.

*sigh* I’m tired of this fight. This isn’t an argument about the issues. You could care less. You’ve called me an Anti-man Greenie (whatever that means) and have painted all of my views since with that brush.

Leave me alone Tremblay. Whatever your problem is, work it out or take it out on someone else. There’s no room for you in my psyche.

  1. Libertarians respect, among other things, free speech and private property. That doesnt mean that they have to respect your free speech on their private blog.

A Libertarian such as Franc will respect your right to start your own blog and excercise your free speech if you wish, but there is no obligation for any Libertarian to allow you to have your say on their private platform/blog in which they excercise their own free speech.

Since Franc didnt try to destroy or otherwise interfere with your own blogs existence, I would say he is being perfectly consistent with his Libertarian views of individualism, private property, and free speech.

Besides, your pro-life-forms-as-long-as-its-not-pro-homo-sapien attitude makes the self-respecting homo sapiens not want to give you the consideration that you so obviously refused them.

  2. He heh. Yeah, my roommate uses that same argument.

“If you don’t think humans are morally considerable, why do you talk to us?”

In the end, the contradiction lies only in attempting to unify my beliefs under one giant umbrella. Perhaps someday I’ll write a post that explains that. For the present, just know that it is perfectly consistent and well-thought out.

Franc claims to be a Libertarian. I don’t doubt he believes he is, but either he is disrespecting my property rights (as this is a paid for website, not a .blogspot one) by spewing his hate speech here, or he is disrespecting my speech rights by not allowing me to defend myself on your team blog.
This, of course, only works if he thinks me morally considerable, which he claims not to. But then we run into the problem of his Libertarianism only applying to him and people like him, in which case it boils down to Hedonism or something equally preposterous.

In any case, this debate is frustrating. I don’t understand why I bother him so much that he has to attack me, unprovoked, incessantly.

I wish it would stop, quite frankly (no pun intended). I was in the mood for a fight four months ago when we first crossed paths, but now I just want to enjoy Australia and be happy.

Either way, no hard feelings Aaron. You’re a smart guy. I’ve read “Kill the Afterlife” on more than one occasion and your points are top-notch.
