My website would be starting first grade this year if not for the fact that it was born after September 1st. It’s okay, though, because I want it to be bigger and badder than all the other blogs on the Internets when it finally goes to school next year.
It’s getting harder and harder to find presents for my blog now. See: it’s big enough to know its blogoversary and spoiled enough to realize when it’s getting gypped.
Last year, as a fifth birthday present, I started the group-blog Constrained Writing for my little blog. I gave it a little brother!1 It was not amused. It was also not amused that my increased workload had left it with the same header and theme for the past couple of years.
So this year I went out of my way to completely redo everything. I restructured the site so that it automatically reloads to apixelatedmind.com rather than pixcapacitor.com. I’d been meaning to do that for a while. Partly because that’s what I should have set as my domain in the first place, but mostly because I just want to screw with your RSS readers.
I also made a new flag and polished up a new theme.
Obviously there are going to be loose ends left after the move. There always are. I still have to go through the archives and redirect pages to the new URL. I have to get the header looking much better than it is now– though in minor ways that you probably wouldn’t care much about. I have to fix the broken plugins and damaged pages. All while maintaining my sanity in school and life.
But what the hey. My blog deserves it. It only turns six once. And I love it. I’ve written about three novels’ worth of content in it.
- Of course, I then went on to immediately leave the little brother malnourished and poorly advertised. It’s okay: it knows that I love it. [↩]
